Is $1000 for a 1998 Oldsmobile Eighty Eight with 275,000 miles a good asking price for it?

The car has had new parts installed on the engine, too. No other mechanical issues.

Would you pay this much for it?

How many more miles could the next driver get out of it?

There's other new parts under the hood as well.

That is a LOT of miles for an American car! If you need reliable transportation, look elsewhere. At any time the engine can go bad; main bearings, rod bearings, cam followers & bearings, timing gears/chains, etc. And the transmission has 275K miles on it too.

Get it checked out by someone who knows a great deal about cars first. It needs a full check-out BEFORE you purchase. Most people, if they are sure of the car's condition, will allow you to take it to a garage to have it looked at or let someone you know come by and check it out. If they're like NOOOO JUST GIVE ME MONEY AND TAKE IT!!! then run away, its not what you want or need :P If it needs repairs and you still want the car, make sure the repairs are in your budget. Whoever evaluates the car for you will tell you weither or not it needs work. If its a little bit and nothing serious and you want it, go for it. If it costs too much its not worth it for a car like that, I'd go on to something else. From what it sounds like thats a good price for the type of car and condition its in, but I can't say for sure unless I knew all the facts, go get it checked out first :)

250 to 600 it could fail at any time,

engine cost between 800 to 4000 + installation,

Transmission to 350 to 1000 Plus installation.

i would say that, according to Kelly Blue Book, $1000 is a steal! take it and run before the person realizes that you can get at least $3000 for it.

I wouldn't pay anything for it. Everything in that car is probably at the end of it's lifespan.
