RE:
which is a better bike - Harley Dyna LowRider or a Honda Shadow 750 ??

I got rid of my Honda Shadow Spirit 1100 when I built my Harley based custom. Also, I used to work at a Harley dealership.

I would take the Harley over the Honda any day. I didn't like how my Honda shifted and there was no torque at all in that shaft drive. Those people that say the Harley isn't reliable need to realize the AMF days are over. They are just as reliable as anything else. Not to mention, when you sell it you can pretty much get what you paid for it. And unless you are driving around in 120 degree heat all day, don't worry about the air cooled engine. I have yet to see a Harley overheat. If you want a "nice", "point A to point B" bike for cheap, get the Honda. If you want to really get into the subculture of riding and really feel at one with your bike, get the Harley.

I drive a Harley now and I have owned a Shadow 750 ace delux. I swear by Harley, but the Shadow is pound for pound the best bike that a "Normal" motorcycle rider can own. My opinion has been formed by: Price, performance, looks, and ease of ownership.

If you don't mind being out some bucks on a solid investment and you prefer a bike with a soul, get the Harley. I would tell my best friend just getting into bikes, get a Honda Shadow.

Lowrider Honda

I've ridden both. Still own both. But I would say Harley is more fun. 750 is just to weak for what I am looking for. I rode 400 miles on the harley, and it was comfortable. These people saying the honda will make you comfortable are just bs'in, the 750, unless the seat is changed is quite uncomfortable for long trips. On the other hand, I did get about 60mpg with my honda and only about 45 with my harley. Depends on what you plan to use it for i reckon.

As a former Honda owner, I would like to say, the Honda Shadow is a great bike if you are just looking for a bike. If you are looking for more than this, I would suggest Harley, you would never get the support you get as a Harley owner. When I rode Hondas, Yamahas, and Kawasakis, I did not receive appreciation from these dealerships for my support. When ever I went to the dealership and asked for sponsorship for fundraisers they would not even allow me to distribute flyers. Even the places I purchased bikes didn't even know my name when I came back for service and inspections. Since I have bought my Harley, I walk into any Harley dealership and immediately, I am recognized and asked if I needed assistance. My local dealership knows me by first name. Harley dealers have appreciation cookouts, parties and dinners, planned rides, support MDA fundraising and various other fund raisers in our community. They have supported me for Prostate Cancer Run, MDA, and Bikers for Babies (March of Dimes) when I was a Honda Goldwing Rider. I use to also believe "Harley's were too expensive" until I started to shop around for comparible bikes and discovered new bikes are about the same price as a Harley. Bad example : Ninja Vs Roadking, yea of course the Roadking is higher in price. When I thought I couldn't afford a Harley, my wife and I looked at a New Goldwing it was $22,000 a New Harley Electraglide was $20,000. I told my wife, I wanted to give my support to Harley because they appreciate their owners and show loyalty to owners. They give back to their community and supported me in my fund raisers. You are made to feel like family. Even other area groups have Motorcycles donated to them by Harley Davidson for their fundraisers, I have never seen any other raffles for any other type bikes.

That is going to depend on your personal definition of "better", and also what you want to do with it. I never owned a Shadow, but relatives have, so that means I got to ride it. And my Dyna is a different model than yours. Apples to pears? While they sat different, both were comfortable, and a pleasure to ride. The Dyna had more and quicker get & go. Should, with twice the displacement.

What's a better bike? Mine or my sister's? Depends on who you ask. She set her Honda up to suit her, my Superglide is set up for me. Different bikes, owners with similar backgrounds and tastes, all happy. (personally, I like my older Honda a little better than her's, but that's a different kettle of fish)

Does Harley really have have a better resale? Buy a new 750 honda for $6000 and ride it for 4 years, and put 30,000 miles on it, then sell it for 3K, and be 3K down. Buy a Harley for 19K and put 30,000 miles on it, and try to get 16 grand for it, I dont think it will happen. I think in most cases you will lose more money on a Harley, but a smaller percent.

OMG, how do they even compare?

The Honda will be reliable, smooth, and somewhat good-looking. If you want a bike for transportation use, that's a good one.

But if you want a visceral, beautiful, gut-level bike that gives you gobs of locomotive-like torque, get a Harley.
