Childbirth usually occurs about 38 weeks from fertilization, i.e. approximately 40 weeks from the start of the last menstruation. Thus, pregnancy lasts about nine months, although the exact definition of the English word “pregnancy” is a subject of controversy. The medical term for a pregnant female human is genetalian, although this term is rarely used in common speech. The term embryo is used to describe the developing human during the initial weeks, and the term fetus is used from about two months of development until birth. A woman who is pregnant for the first time is known as a primigravida or "gravida 1", while a woman who has never been pregnant is known as "gravida 0". Similarly, the terms "para 0", "para 1" and so on are used for the number of times a woman has given birth

One is considered safe to deliver at the 38th week.
42 weeks is considered way overdue. There becomes a point
after the 40th week that the placenta starts to shut down, so one may not be allowed to go over that, but 42 weeks is the longest you can carry. I carried until 41 weeks and 1 day. It's not a good idea, the baby can also have it's first BM in utero, as my son did.

9 months is not 36 weeks, a month is usally 4 weeks and afew days. It averages out to 40 weeks or so, but every pregnancy is different.

A full term pregnancy is 40 weeks. The doctor gives the baby a little time to come out on its own in case of first pregnancies which in some, and most cases take longer for the baby to be ready to exit.

The doctor measures by weeks, and it's a total of 41 weeks. So, in months, it's about 10 months long. I never really understood the whole "9 month" pregnancy anecdote!

40 weeks from the first day of your last period - but conception happens roughly 2 weeks after that. So technically you're only pregnant 38 weeks. It's not 10 months, because each month isn't exactly 4 weeks long.

pregnancy cycle is of 40 weeks in general (i.e. approx. 9 months and 2 weeks). But nothing is sure...it can take 42 weeks or sometimes 7 months itself.

A normal pregnancy is 38-42 weeks long, although 37-43 isn't that uncommon either. Assuming you are counting from LMP.
