My deck was already painted when I moved in and the paint has baked on there enough to where powerwashing didn't do the trick. Not sure of the effects of Muriatic Acid on wood. Any info would be helpfull.

Use a paint remover like Jasco Gold. Dilute muriatic acid will not remove paint.

Muriatic acid is another name for hydrochloric acid. It will etch concrete and metals. Do not use on the deck.

use a deck-stripper, usually caustic, which will eat the top layer of wood and then the paint comes right off.

Depends on the wood and the paint.
