There is no need to give a baby water until after they have started solids. Then, you should give no more than 2-3 oz. at a time and only after they have eaten solids or drank formula or breastmilk since the water has no nutritional value and doesn't provide any calories.

when the weather gots really hot (july auguast) i would give my son water. HE was about 6-7 months old then. There is alot of water in breastmilk and formula, so unless he is sweating all the time he is fine. I live in So. Cal so summers are 100+, and its easy to dehydrate.

My docotor told me the same thing at my daughters 2 month well check, she is now 7 months old and I give her a little bit of water (maybe 3 0z) on really hot days, if she is wants it between meals and feedings, also right before she goes to bed at night after her last bottle I give her a couple sips of water to clean her mouth out since she has teeth.

I would say once they reach a year old and are no longer drinking formula. But if the baby is constipated, a little bit of water is a good idea.

I started giving my son water at 6 months. the doctors said that when you give them water at a young age, it gets them full and then they don't want to drink the formula. therefore they are not getting all of the nutrients that they need.

There is no harm in offering distilled water a couple of times a day (but not at feeding time).
Either your baby will take it or not, as needed.
If baby is exposed to outdoor heat for very long water is a good idea.

not until they are 1 1/2 or 2 years old in cups. not bottles. doc is right, everything they need comes in the formula or bresastmilk
