I have a bottom sucker tank cleaner, brown, flat with wide mouth it sticks to the surface with. No idea what it’s called. Recently I noticed that it’s loosing it’s top skin in patches. I am treating the entire fish tank for a fungus because of it but is it correct? I also have another cleaner, angel fish, orange platy( not sure what it’s called either) and a gurami (flat local fish, gray with white spots.) All of them are over three years old. Should I treat entire tank or just sick fish?

When was the last ti me you tested your water.

This really sounds like a problem with ammonia inthe tank.

Plecos are especially sensitive to ammonia and it burns them causing the pleco to flake skin offf like it is shedding.

The stress will also cause the pleco to change color and become pale or whitish looking.

You should test the ammonia level, if you do not have a test kit, take some water from the tank to a loal pet store and they will usually test it for free.

This does not sould like a fungus problem but like an ammonia problem (possibly a bacteria).

Ditto to the others treat the entire tank. If the problem doesn'tget better in a few days you will need to change treatments. What you are seeing is most likely a fungus, but could also be a skin infection which the fungus medication will not effectively treat.

If it appears to be a skin infection you will need to treat with an antibiotic. I would suggest Maracyn or Maracyn TC, just treat as directed on the package for 10 days.

I agree. Treat the entire tank.
I run a Pet Store and this issue will only get worse or keep affecting other fish.

Yes, treat the whole tank because the pleco (bottom sucker as you called it) i think is a pleco anyway, And those get really big if it is a pleco, Treat the whole tank because it will probibly spread so treat the whole tank, And if you have any other thanks that share the same net, syphon, etc treat them aswell,
