You probably know a freemason personally, one of your father's friends or something.

Bronson Pinchot is a mason. He was on some sitcom. You'd want to look him up on IMDB. The link attached is a list of famous Masons.

Also, something else people don't know, there is a final degree in Masonry - once you reach it you can't go higher in the organization - so you join another organization - you become a Shriner. So, next time someone spouts consiracy theory about the Masons taking over the world, try to Imagine your would-be oppressor as a guy in a Fez on a tiny motorcycle.

Yes, there are modern freemasons. Although it is not a secret society the way that it once was, it is still alive and well. I know several who belong to the freemasons, though I couldn't tell you the names of anyone famous (cuz I don't know). But one of the supervisors in my office is, a friend's father, and my husband has started the process to become one. Beyond that, I've no clue.

They aren't all famous. One works in my office. Apparently it's a nice organization to be backing you up though... It's not as unified as I thought: lots of suborganizations and sometimes split over race and gender.

Don't think that Bill Gates is. Steve Wozniack (not sure of the spelling), one of Apple's founders, is as was Gerald Ford.
