If you are concerned about the abs not working, then by all means, have it inspected and get an estimate for the repairs.
there are several things it could be. Anything from a wheel speed sensor to your alternator or battery. yes, the battery can effect wether or not your abs will work. the abs pump motor requires a substantial amount of current from the electrical system. The abs system monitors battery voltage. It has a threshold of around 11.6v before it will turn the abs light on. This is the problem I had on my own vehicle. I was able to rewire a underhood fuse block that was corroded and not sending full battery voltage to the ebcm(electronic brake control module). I personally like to have the abs working properly on my car especially in the winter because the abs helps you keep control of your car in slippery conditions, but remember it won't necessarily help you stop quicker. get it checked out and go from there.

Pull the main ABS fuse under the hood. It would cost a fortune to fix and doesn't do that much good anyhow.

I have the same problem on my 94 Explorer. I ignore it. The brakes are working fine, it's probably just a sensor.

have your wheel sensors checked as there is probably a bad one or a broken wire on one, also make sure your brake fluid is full.
