Imagine for a minute that were ZERO weather sattelites... no advance warning of hurricanes or tornadoes. No infra-red analysis of where a field needs more moisture to improve irrigation so that more food can be grown. Space exploration benefits ALL of mankind. You are asking the wrong question - the space exploration budget is less than 2% of the total budget. The defense budget, on the other hand is a much bigger chunk of the budget. Carl Sagan said years ago that if the Earth's governments were to combine their military budgets towards building a spacecraft they could build anything they wanted - even a starship. Space exploration is cheap, saves lives, and is a part of the nature of humanity to learn about its surroundings. We NEED to explore space - an asteroid could anihilate all life on Earth - we NEED to find out where they are so we can prevent this.

The richest people in the USA depend on the USA's military power to continue to have wealth without work. (They leech off the working-class in America and world-wide.) That's why the USA's government (which is controlled by rich people via bribes, lobbyists, and campaign contributions) spends trillions of dollars on military costs instead of ending poverty. The space developments are done for military purposes.

Poverty stricken people are poor because of their own fault or their countries fault. Not my concern.. I have my own problems.
Plus, maybe we can find a new planet named Australia, and send all our poor there like we did on earth....
