Some said "The Blacks aren't slaves themselves so why should we have to pay?" but Black people are less richer than White people because the US government didn't pay for slavery when it's finished. and that is why Black people couldn't get education even after the slavery.

Is it fair for Black people?

Also I feel I don't have enough knowlege in this area so could you please recommend any books?

Thanks.

It's not fair that African Americans were used as slaves so long ago, but it was the white communities ancestors that actually did it not moder day whites. Also less than 30% of all whites in the south, at the time of slavery, even owned slaves. I'm not trying to be rude but i don't think moder day whites should have to pay for something they didn't do.

I am a little upset at some of the things that were written on this page. As a black girl I don't need money as a repayment for my ancestors troubles. First of all most whites in this country did not come after slavery some did but there are a lot of racist people in this country and they learned it because it was taught to them. Second, not many Africans came to America after Slavery so if you do your research you will find that (I can't remember the number) but about 85-90% of blacks are descendants of slaves. I hate when people say that modern day whites didn't do anything. Whites aren't helping, not enough are helping the problem. Slavery haunts us all. GO to the city, see what society has done to my race. Understand that the system has been set up for us to fail. Study why it is set up for us to fail. This is not something I am making up. I come from an all black community and I went to a majority white college. At college, whites don't want to hear about racism because they feel guilty(they feel bad), it has nothing to do with them, or they are racist. If you are not apart of the solution you are apart of the problem. I don't want ten acres and a mule I want my race to be free. And not this fake version of free, true FREEDOM!! We are not free we are not done with slavery it is still very much apart of our culture. We need to get together and end it.

From what i hear, slave masters and those of that kind were paid by the government for there loss when slavery was over. Do we really think all slaves were released and all plantations pressed on with normal work without help. Hmmmmmm.

The problem should of been fixed then, on who should of gotten payed. I guess some people think that given slaves freedom was pay enough. I'll take the money :)

Slave Masters were not slaves but they got payed.

The US government never had any slaves. Slaves were plantation workers on privately owned plantations.
Most people living in the US today are the decendents of Europeans who came over long after slavery was no more. Also many blacks are decended from people who were never slaves.
How would you ever untangle the whole mess ? I know that people who suffered under the nobility and royalty of Europe, and came over long after there was no slvery should not have to pay for something that was done by pivate land owners before their time.

No, a million. it wasn't the U.S. authorities that became responsible for slavery. 2. how do you propose to confirm entitlement ? no longer all blacks were descendant of slaves, no longer all slaves were black. Are there information to start up the quest ? 3. in case you've been to acquire 40 acres and a mule (tax loose) the position might want to or not it truly is ? Nevada ? The U.S. authorities owns maximum folk of it and can want to dispense it, yet who might want to need it ? as well, Be severe, human beings already imagine the Civil conflict became reparations, as if there have been no black infantrymen. they imagine because all slaves and slave owners are lifeless there's no concern. the actuality that each individual signers of the announcement of Independence are lifeless would not go back the U.S. to England does it ? do not even supply a second concept to the folk who imagine former slaves were already compensated with land and animals. we've a lengthy thanks to flow guidance historic previous in u.s..

Considering the cost to the U.S. gov't (the North) during the Civil War (in excess of $2 billion) and not too mention how many people died on both sides - 970,000 causualities - just so the slavery issue (amongst other issues) could be resolved, I would say that any legal or moral debt at this point has been more than paid in full.

It is very unfair as it is in Australia. The Aboriginals ( the first owners of this land ) had their children stolen and given to white families who used them for free labour they were promised 6 pence a week and never ever recieved that money. Still now after 200 years they are treated as 2nd class citizens by our pompous liberal government.
