Is your phone a GSM capable phone? If so, read on. If not, don't use the software suggested below but go to one of the Motorola forums and ask about Mac connection software for CDMA or whatever type.

You need to connect the phone as a modem so it can accept AT commands from the computer software. Otherwise, it will be connected like a drive and nothing can happen. Try using Moto4Lin (link below). There is a version available that has been ported to Mac OS. Even then I don't know if the phone can communicate by AT commands without a modem script. You can try some of the pre-installed scripts listed in the system in Network pane of System Preferences but it is a longshot. There is a guide online (link below) about connecting the phone as a drive (P2K) so you'll need to just choose AT instead of P2K when you are setting up the connection in the Moto4lin window. Be careful to backup any data from the phone to your Mac before you start mucking about or you may turn it into a zombie and have to reflash it to get the system working.
