In the USA freedom of speech prevails. That does not mean that society should condone the insulting of other people's religions or beliefs. Good intellect and class would find a way to express ones intellectual views without insulting the owner of differing views.

It seems that Christianity is a target for everybody, as it was Christianity that has contributed much to society! People can insult Christians and what they believe in and say so what. Do it to those that are non Christian and all Hell breaks loose

The First Amendment assures REASONABLE Free Speech. You cannot shout fire in a crowded building when there is No fire. If you Know that calling people Racial Slurs is going to start a riot and you do it anyway, You can be charged for enciting riots! I hope they make it a violation to burn an American Flag. There are other ways of displaying displeasure.

Recently two elderly women were incarcerated, each facing 45 year sentences each! Their Crime? Passing out Tracts! That's Communism in Pennsylvania under a State Bill 1592! Congress has just Passed into Law the following Federal Bills 254, 984 1592 and are trying to pass 2093 to silence Grassroots Groups and churches if their teachings (Doctrines) are Not Politically Correct! Mind you none of these bills gives Protected Status to Children under 18, Court Witnesses, elderly persons, retired military, those on active duty or police! Who WILL BE NEXT IN NOT HAVING FREE SPEECH AND FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION WithIN REASON and NOT HAVE TO CHANGE DOCTRINE OR BELIEFS?

The freedom of speech is not absolute. For example, one famous Judge said that freedom of speech doesn't give you the right to falsely "yell fire in a crowded theater". Obviously doing so could cause a stampede and injury to many. Similarly, you can't "incite a riot" through speech, for example by encouraging a mob to attack someone.

That said, we should be extremely cautious about limiting this important right. Certainly we can't start limiting speech because we are worried it will be offensive to some group.
If we go down that road, we could severely impact our ability to freely exchange ideas, which could have a terrible impact on the advancement of politics, religion, science; nearly every field of human endeavor. So, bottom line for me is I think religion should certainly not limit the right to free speech.

First of all, FREEDOM OF SPEECH means the government can't punish you for speaking your mind. ie: you won't be prisoned by the government if you voice your political dissent in the freedom of speech society.

Freedom of speech is strictly to give you a freedom to speak up against the government without being arrested.

But if you're in a communist country or a totalitarian regime, you'd be toasted. No freedom of speech there.

But if you yell "fire" in a crowded place, that's not freedom of speech. And of course, decency and value in the way you speak depends on the individual.

In short NO. Religion should not limit the speech. We should be allowed to say what we want about religion, but religion should be able to speak back. That's the problem these days. Govt wants to allow everyone to speak against christianity. I have even heard of students able to quote the koran but not allowed to mention the name of Jesus. So religion should not limit our speech and speech should not limit our religion.

Freedom of speech is just that. It isn't freedom of speech, except....

We HAVE the right to say anything about anything; others have the right to debate or disagree. That is our right. Insulting religion is not wrong - although you may not like it. It is called opinion.

Go the religion & spirituality category here - you'll see many many many so-called religious and Christian people (who by their very religion are to 'love thy neighbor as thyself') being obnoxiously cruel to anyone who dares disagree. That should make the point, "religion should NOT limit our freedom of speech."

just my opinions...to which I am entitled.

the liberty of speech isn't absolute. for instance, one fashionable decide reported that freedom of speech would not furnish you with the right to falsely "yell fireplace in a crowded theater". of course doing so might want to reason a stampede and harm to many. further, you are able to't "incite a rebel" by speech, for instance by technique of encouraging a mob to attack someone. That reported, we could continuously be rather careful about proscribing this crucial suitable. surely we are able to not start up proscribing speech because we are frightened it will be offensive to some team. If we flow down that street, lets significantly impact our skill to freely substitute options, that would want to have a nasty impact on the progression of politics, faith, technological know-how; almost each field of human organisation. So, base line for me is i imagine faith could surely no longer reduce the right to loose speech.

I suggest you look at history and the conflicts between the muslims and christians. Much of that conflict is driven by negative speech. The "Mohammed Cartoon" is a perfect example. A dutch comic drew a cartoon that was insulting to Islam, and actually drew an image of Mohammed in the cartoon.

freedom to speak should not be infringed upon. if they say something you don't like, you have the right to express that opinion, and if no one likes what they say, it won't matter what they do say.
