I'm not familiar with DSL. It has a cat 5 cable to the modem, and phone line to the wall phone jack. Do I set it up as LAN, so it sees the cat 5? How does the modem know what # to dial? Am I missing a setup disc for the modem? Would really appreciate any help.

You should not need to reset the modem. Since a DSL modem is in all actuality a server, it retains the user info. So just point the computer at the RJ45 port and all should be ok. IE, "Connect using a boradband connection that is always on". If you need to address the modem it's IP is usually 192.168.0.1
Type this number or IP into the browser's Address bar and click Go.

it know the number by connecting to the phone line. Setting up a LAN would mess every thing up startv from the DSL cd-rom then re-connect the modem. Then install call the conmpany is any problem

Who is the DSL provider? Call them! They'll walk you through the complete set-up. Verizon has farmed out their tech service to India. I couldn't understand a work the guy said. He gave me a new code to enter. He was trying to say "V" but it sounded like B. I said b as in boy. He said V as in bictor. We went back & forth until I realize he meant V as in Victor.
