I placed no blame on just one side or the other, just want to know if you think this was a good idea, given the probable consequences.

the hardest part of building a nuclear weapon is to get the fuel. Once that happens, it is very easy. Check out 'Nuclear Bazaar', a book just released on this very subject

Depends on the circumstances. Germany and Japan were sovereign nations too. As was Afghanistan. As was Iraq.

Iran and North Korea were working on nuclear weapons before the Iraq invasion.

So were Libya, and Iraq.

I do think it's a daunting, and perhaps impossible, task to keep the genie in the bottle.

But a policy of trying to deter others' nuclear ambitions, one way or another, has worked in two out of four cases, so far.

PS I asked several questions recently and they were either not posted or removed altogether. Oh well.

Opening the door to invade sovereign nations did not begin with Iraq. Our country abandoned the intent of the Constitution when we began an interventionist foreign policy after World War II. Both of the major parties are responsible for this, and the American people are for allowing elected representatives to do nothing about it. Congress is the branch of government that can or can not declare war. We have not declared war since World War II.

no it's still relatively hard to build a nuke and the technological know how is far and few between. the Iranians have been working on theirs for years now. any nation that poses a threat to the American people is fair game.

I think that's an awesome question, and I think it stands to reason that countries will do whatever they deem necessary to gain more might.

Most already have them, and those who don't are in the process of getting them. What's your point?
