The show is called American Idol! When American Idol started , it was not a singing contest! It was an american idol contest! The contestants seemed younger, and it was most likely teenagers who were voting. They voted for Kelly, who had the whole package, meaning talent, and personality, and the looks. Someone that they would look up to and want to be like. Then when Rubin and Clay were winning, the judges started calling it a singing contest, because Ruben and Clay didn't fit the image of an american idol! I like Rubin and Clay, but the show is really about finding a idol, so , The person with the whole package should win, and that's most likely who the young teenagers are voting for!
So Melinda DID NOT have the whole package! Blake and Jordan do, and they are the ones that young people would idolize, and that's why one of them will win!

Blake and Jordin have alot of talent, plus the whole picture! Most people would go see their concerts, than Melinda's! Admit it! It's just the truth! It has nothing to do with race! Blake is just more entertaining, and Melinda is boring, and not worth the drive to the concert!

Yes, the judges still call it a singing contest. I'm just saying that in the beginning, it was an American Idol contest! I never said anything about skin color or anyone's wieght. But for the record, Jordan in 1/2 black, and not so skinny, so how can you use race, and wieght as a excuse for Melinda getting voted off? I would like to hear an answer to that!

Young people are the ones buying the albums and Cd's and they are the ones that are voting. America people does not always agree on the people they for. We know this from the presidential elections. How does race get in every debate that comes up?

I actually agree with you 100%...singing is only a part of the American Idol formula, and I've been trying to tell people this all along. That's the way the entertainment industry is PERIOD! Melinda is a good singer but she is boring and too many people think she looks like Shrek. Blake and Jordin have the entire "looks-personality-talent" package so they totally belong in the finale. Personally I think Jordin is the stronger of the two.

ummm I'm quite sure I heard Simon calling it a singing contest and I'm pretty sure that the Idol winner gets a record deal..so why wouldn't one vote on singing? It's not about the package at all. People need to vote on the singing more than the 'package' as you put it and I completely agree with Fly...does one have to be white & thin that doesn't have anything out of place to be the american idol? I don't think so. People are just making excuses now for why Blake is still there. The reality is, America doesn't know a good singer obviously and is too concerned with whether a person is physcially attractive (which I think Melinda isn't a bad looking person at all) over anything else.
Makes me sick..in 2007 that's what people still look at.

have you ever watched the show? it was always a singing contest. have you ever seen any one on there that did not sing(sing is a strong word for some) it was advertised from the start as a singing contest. it just happens to be named american idol. there has been many of them that had the full package.there can only be one winner. melinda is a winner and we have not heard the last from her. i don't get why you say it was not a singing contest from the start. you have to remember they are all beginners. if they had the whole package already then they would be a judge not a contestent.

Im really perplexed with american idol i thought all along that it was indeed a singing contest because that is what they showcase every week,but now after last wednesday i now believe its after all more of a popularity contest with more emphasis on looks,appeal,glamour more than talent,in the long run talent will just take a backseat afterall ,especially during the final stages of the competition ,now i know i made a mistake in my impression of AI,in spite of the fact that they showcase it as a singing competition in reality singing talent is just a small percentage of the criteria after all,im really saddened to find out that its actually like that, looks like im watching the wrong show all along

Melinda deserved to be out. I agree that she is good. But, not a lot of old people watch American Idol. No offense to her, but she is really old-fashioned. Blake and Jordin are the ones who are really inspiring for our generation. I personally think that Jordin is gonna win! Go Jordin! Sparks Fly High!

when melinda got voted off, I said to my boyfriend, that just goes to show its kids that are voting! not voting for talent, but for something else, because melinda totally has the most
talent.
