That is the problem.

They take away the power of labor by providing very cheap workers. When there are people willing to take any job for virtually no money, the people at the lower end lose their jobs and lose their ability to influence big business.

People say that theyre needed because they do the work for less-I say that is exactly why theyre harmful.

Look at the labor situation in Chicago in the 1920's---everytime you have a surplus of cheap labor the workers suffer.

Business are cutting insurance while charging more for it, companies have no loyalty to their employees, its getting harder and harder to find a job making enough money to survive at a low level---get rid of the ILLEGAL immigrants who are undercutting the legal citizens and you'll see businesses held accountable for the first time in years!

That is the reason amnesty is getting such support. That is the reason they refuse to crack down on illegal immigration. It has nothing to do with the protests or the people. Breaking up families isnt a concern. It is economics. Businesses fund the politicians, and businesses want $5/day workers who are expendable.

Americans have a tradition of not working for wages below what is considered reasonable pay .
That this work is being done still by illegals is the problem .
Its like union workers who picket the gate and owners who bus in scab labor .
The strike is settled and the scabs forced out .
With a wage so low that an individual could not pay rent eat and pay for transportation to that job why do it at all till they are willing to pay enough .
Mexicans will live in large groups purchasing beans in the 3 dollar economy can that feeds 20 purchasing in bulk packing lunches and working hard 10-12 hours a day for just 5 dollars an hour .
That money is sent to mexico where it is worth 3 times as much . So they are earning in reality a wage that is equal to what americans would want to be paid but are not . A few years of hard work and back in mexico the family has a piece of land and a home when and if those family members return .

You are entirely correct, of course.

But the opposition to reforming the immigration system and a way of giving the undocumented workers legal status isn't based on fairness or economic logic. It comes from two sources:

1) employers who are able to avoid paying minimum wages and/or other costs they are legally obligated to pay. By pocketing that money they are making billions. BTW: that's also why the state and local governments are finding the illegal immigrants a burden. Its not them--its businessmen who are pocketing money they are supposed to turnover to those governments.

2) Bigotry. There are, sadly, still a lot of people in this country who are bigoted. Essentially these are bullies who target any vulnerable group. That's the real motive behind groups like the "Minutemen"--these are not patriots, they are simply bigotedthugs who are looking for an excuse to bully people. They don't want legal status for the immigrants because it will take away the excuse they've been using to intimidate and mistreat their victims.

I, who am a US citizen, personally have mowed lawns for money, worked construction, washed dishes, and many of the other jobs we supposedly won't do. So that whole "their doing the jobs that americans won't do" argument doesn't fly with me.

My complaint is that when I have a child (and I have two) I pay for it...when an illegal has a child (and they have numerous) I pay for it. When I try to put my child (that I paid for) in pre-K, I can't because pre-k is only available to those who do not speak English (in other words...the illegals' kids that I paid for)

My complaint is that when I take my child to the emergency room because she has a broken arm, she has to wait for hours so that the illegals, who use the emergency room as a free clinic for headaches and other nonemergency conditions, can be attended to. Again my tax money pays for the hospital, which cares for the illegals "free" and charges me for services.

My complaint is that when my wife and children are struck by an illegal who ran a stop sign, I have to turn in a claim on my insurance because the illegal doesn't have to worry about any of our laws, including the one that requires you to have car insuanrce. Again, they don't need a license or insurance both of which I am required to have (that means pay for). When they cause a wreck, once again I'm stuck paying for it. So not only am I paying for insurance that the illegals don't have to pay for, but when that run into me...I have to pay even more because my premiums go up. Not to mention I already paying more than I would because when you live in a border state you MUST have unisured motorists coverage.

If you can't see the problems with these scenarios (all true ones by the way). Then you don't want to see the problem.

It would be great if we could support the entire world so that everyone on the planet would have the quality of life that we enjoy. But the entire world can not be supported by the american tax payer.

There is a misconception on how much illegal pays and I love is partially right. There are many reason to be against illegal immigrants. One of them is that they reduce work condition. Employers love to hire them because they can abuse them with out fear they might be sued. Employers don't pay for workers comp and so when they are injured they are sent to the ER at our expense. THe other half is that they do not need to create reasonable work condition. Employers can allow the work place to fall into unsafe condition and the illegal will not complain. illegal immigration also reduces our legal system. As a society we can not have people pick and choose which laws they want to obey. There would be no order if we allow them to do so. If there are unjust laws we should argue about them and change it, instead .

not every american thinks that way. But yeah, I do. I do the job I'm given only to find out that a mexican has replaced me. I did my job like it was supposed to have been done. So, why be replaced with a mexican? Because they work for less so that money can be sent to mexico for their family. They need to stay in mexico. They don't belong over here. And some of these "hard workers" as you put it, get american girls pregnant so they can stay here. But they have a family back home. How immoral is that? And you agree to this? What the hell is wrong with you? Are you not american? We don't go to other countries and take their jobs. That's just not us. So why should others do it to us?!

I agree with you. But please understand they dont work for this under wage pay that everyone thinks they do.
I make roughly about 300.00 per week. My husband is Hispanic and he makes 600.00 per week...
My bestfriends husband is hispanic and he does construction and guess what....he makes 1200.00 per week.
My mother in law works on a chicken farm gathering eggs. She gets free rent (for living on the farm full time) and makes just as much as I do. I work at a car dealership.
So please explain where people think that mexicans work for hardly nothing. YES they do crap jobs that americans WONT do....(THAT IS WHY THE OPENINGS FOR THESE JOBS ARE ALWAYS THERE WHEN ME MEXICAN COMES AND GETS IT) But they make what an American would make. And yes all the people mentioned in this answer pays taxes as well. And yes there are some that dont pay taxes but hey some Americans dont either....AND you ALL know I'm right on that. I could go on and on all day about this. I had the same mind frame that everyone else has until I met my husband. And I was wrong. I see what they do and what they make and I see the taxes they pay in and DONT get back at the end of the year like we do......

The problem is just that we would do the jobs but not for the same pay. Let me first point out that I have nothing against anyone of any nationality coming to this country to make a better life for themselves and their family. The problem with illegal immigration isn't the poor guy or gal that comes here and works for less undercutting the American worker. It is the corporations, and people that illegally pay them sub minimum wage exploiting the fact that they are illegal.

Because: they are the reason we can't get paid enough. They are the reason there aren't enough jobs to go around. They are the reason for inflation which is to compensate people for loosing income because they were unable to win a bid on a contract at a fair rate when they were underbid by a company that hires illegals and pays them far less than they deserve. They are happy to live in shabby housing, then let them, but not at the sacrifice of everybody else being underbid for a living who lives here legally. Besides, I have been bumped out of jobs not because of my performance, but because someone who is bilingual can be paid less and pose as a translator for my boss. They don't have my skill and experience, and he has to train them totally in everything because they also have no education past secondary school. I have thousands of dollars of education loans because I was already at poverty level growing up and seven years of experience in my field.
Oh, no. I don't have any reason to be upset whatsoever that all my hard work and suffering is for nothing so that someone can sneak into my country against the rules and make me jobless and homeless and laugh at me while she's doing it. Someone I've never met before and never done anything to.

I used to feel sorry for those people, but they don't care about me, so I don't anymore.

If Americans get hungry enough they will do those jobs.

Last I checked there are plenty of American construction workers that are getting laid off so cheaper illegal workers that will work for next to nothing can save the employer a few bucks.

Arrest all illegal workers and employers should be shut down and have business license revoked
