I saw a disturbing video today of a 17 year old girl being stoned to death in Iraq. How on earth can Bush think that people with this type of mindset could ever comprehend democracy? I don't think we can comprehend their world and they sure don't want to become like Americans. Why on earth are we there trying to force people to be what they do not want to be? Our troops are dying daily. Not everybody wants our brand of "freedom". You cannot force that onto someone. When will Bush have that realization?

Harley, I have not labeled them as anything other than a vastly different culture from American. Not all cultures have the same wants and needs. If these people do not want us there, what rights do we have to force our way of life, our ideals and our governmental ways on them? I called nobody a terrorist. Like it or not, not all people are good ole boys. Some people are horrified by the American ways.

Honor killings are nothing new. They happen almost everyday in the middle east. It is a very common practice of a family to have a daughter that they feel has "disgraced" them publically executed. Usually her executioners are her family members. This is carried out in many different ways.

To Monkey....thanks and I hope you are right. I hope someday such events will not happen and that freedom would extend to women as well as men.

You might be right on the Rodney King video...but Rodney lived to talk about it. This girl didn't. Both are sad events to have happened.

It takes awhile to fix what generations of lies have done to these people...Just like a stubborn child who insists that they are right, you must have patience with the ignorant...My dad taught military war games as a USMC officer and he could tell stories of the people that he met from the middle east that really don't understand that we are not trying to ruin them, and these were military officers from Arab countries that had been fed these lies their whole life and had come to believe that they were true...This fix to the Middle East will take time, but if it is done right could be permanent and lasting

People can be directed only so far - they have to want to have democracy. I'm not saying that "people like that" will never understand democracy - the Athenians invented democracy and they stoned women too. People were lynched for being black in the US a mere 50 years ago.

I think the main problem is that the Iraqi people were shown a cardboard cutout of democracy just after the invasion, and then saw it being torn to shreds as the insurgency got stronger and stronger. Democracy brought them their current situation, so they are mistrustful of it. Democracy only works with the co-operation of the people, if they are too unruly then it simply won't work. Iraq will probably be in civil war for many years, then have a very strong dictatorship government to bring peace, and only then will this eventually be overturned by a democratic movement.

That is so outrageous that it defies adequate words of condemnation. Obviously some people are living in another age. I never heard of the Yezidi before but I doubt that they and other fundamentalist Iraqis are going to become more secular as a result of the change in government. I think they are going to become more sectarian and Iraq will become more theocratic.

Perhaps Iraqis are watching videos of the Rodney King beatings etc and wondering if all Americans are barbarians.

yeah it's starting to seem like the murderous islamo fascist don't want a change in their lives. they must want to continue their barbarous ways. funny how when offered a life at a free society they decide to kill each other. (not just in Iraq the same is happening in Palestine) their hatred for one another is deeper than we care to comprehend. the thing that strikes me is that Islam is the so called peaceful religion if this is peaceful i would hate to see angry.

Congratulations, you have just labeled all the Iraqis as terrorists. I am glad the majority of Iraqi citizens don't feel the same as you.

God Bless America our Troops and Commander in Chief !!!
