My husband and I have been TTC for 8 months now. I've finally decided and I'm going to start trying ovulation predictor kits. I told my doctor that I get the egg white CM, so I'm pretty sure I know when I'm ovulating, but she suggested I use the OP's as well. Just in case =). My question is...when should I start using them? My LMP started on 5/12. Also, once I see a positive, do I continue to use them? Or can I just assume to baby dance for the next 3 days?

Once you get a positive result you dont need to do them anymore in that cycle. It means that you are going to ovulate in 24-48 hours and you should have sex that day and the next. If your LMP was 5/12/07, depending on your cycle length, you wouls start having sex in af ew days and do it everyother day for about a week or so. Women typically ovulate 14 days BEFORE theri next period. I have a 31 day cycle, and ovulate on day 17, and when I was trying I had sex starting on day 12 (since sperm can live for a few days) up until the day after I ovulated.

Sounds like you're having sex at exactly the right time. I was using a generic brand ovulation kit, and it was positive for three or four days as well, which was confusing. So I switched to a ClearBlue digital ovulation test. It shows an empty circle if you're not ovulating, and a happyface if you are :) It was much less confusing. For the second part of your question, I don't know if it's important to have sex everyday. My hubby and I tried to because we figured, the more chances the better! Some people say every other day though. Good luck. :D

Knowing the date of your last LMP isn't really helpful in telling you when to begin using OPKs-what really matters is your cycle length. Most OPKs have you begin testing about 17 days before you expect menstruation if your cycle is regular (but read the directions with your specific test) because ovulation will take place anywhere between ten and sixteen days prior to menstruation, and the OPK looks for the LH surge, which happens 24 to 48 hours before ovulation. If your cycles aren't regular, the suggestion is usually to use your shortest cycle in the last six months as a base.

My doctor recommends that for a women with a 28 day cycle to start taking the OPKs on the 10th day until you see the surge. Once the surge comes you can stop. You should also be taking your BBT to help you get familar with your cycle and to help predict Ovulation. Good luck

I want to tell you something about OPKs. By the time you see the positive, you should have already done the deed! The most fertile time is just before that positive comes.

So why use them? Well, you can at least see what kind of pattern emerges month by month so you can plan intercourse accordingly. But go with your CM.

Good luck!
