Because we're unique as far as life on the planet goes. We're created by one who loves, not evolved from some amoebic stew.
Even the most "evolved" animal doesn't yearn for love. Humans are greater beings with unique characteristics.

I think humans are just wired that way. We yearn for things we can't have. It all began with the first temptation and it will go on to the last.

Of all the factors that have been measured in such representative ancestral environments as we have, social standing (or social status) is the most predictive of reproductive success.
Successful cult memes induce intense social interaction behaviour between cult members. This trips the attention detectors. Tripping the detectors causes the release of reward chemicals without having any more connection to "real world" improvements in reproductive success than abusing addictive drugs. Anyone who has ever had the feeling of being higher than a kite after giving a public speech is well aware of the effects of attention.
Examples of cults using focused attention include "love bombing" in Rev. Moon's Unification Church and "training routines" and "auditing" in Scientology. (Scientology’s training routine 0 (TR-0) has people staring at a partner, in some cases without blinking, for extended times.) An explanation consistent with evolutionary psychology for the propagation of the hard-to-explain memes at the top of this article is that successful memes of this class induce focused attention between those infected with the memes.
That attention in turn results in the release of pleasure inducing chemicals into the reward system of the brain. This release of chemicals results in the reinforcement of behaviours that led to the attention--identical to the process we see in addicts. Thus, it should come as no surprise that the behaviour of people under the influence of cults is similar to that we observe in addicts.

It is one of our basic needs. We were born with the need for love. On Maslow's hierarchy of needs, it is in the number 2 field. Which is interesting considering that #1 is food, shelter and sex. Seriously, is it not obvious that humans are social creatures? If you take a normal, healthy, socially active woman and isolate her from all human contact, within a year her menstrual cycle will cease. What does that tell you?

because it is what we were born to do. we need to feel complete. we need to feel refreshed, we need to feel inspired, and we need to all in all feel and be loved. love is like our natural coffee our natural alarm clock, our natural status check on someone else thru each other hearts. we yearn to be loved because we need to be feel complete. as for the same sex, we need to be accepted so we can feel like a group, (complete) i think its for the sheer fact of survival. u stand a better chance of surviving if u have a strong bond with a fellow human being. and u stand a better chance as a species to reproduce as much as u can. simple really. lol but yeah thats what i think.

Our genitalia was designed to be complimented, but we also have emotional responses, and the ability to communicate and process complicated emotional factors like shame.
We are hardwired to seek a parents approval and to be desirable to others by nature; our biology pushes us to mate with the best possible candidate.
By nuture, we seek the approval of our peers, those that look like us. We want to belong to others and yet have definition and individuality in our peer groups because that gives our life meaning and validation.

The reason is quite simple. I think it was Erik Erikson who developed the Hierarchy of Needs. In order to achieve self satisfaction one must fulfill all parts of the triangle.
