I would like to purchase a older home and though it has a lot of character and potential, I cannot afford a contractor. I would like to get the kitchen, baths and master bedroom remodeled. I realize I could not do this work all at once because of cost for I would remodel one at a time. Has any of you ever DIY (do it yourself), your home remodeling? Was it worth it and would you do it again?

While I agree that tools can be expensive, I think DIYing is a great experience. There are so many websites with helpful info on all aspects of remodeling. Read first, then do. Have a plan before tearing into the work. Enlisting friends to help is also a good idea.

It can be done and can save you alot of money but remember it is a lot of work and if you don't already have the tools it can cost you alot more than if you already had them. If you are going to dive in then i would start in on of the easiest rooms like a bedroom. Water and counter can have many complications so stick with simple first. You can rent big tool items if needed. Friends are the best support for these projects. If you know anyone that has any background in construction i would consult them or recruit them. Good luck.

Yes I have done it but that's also what I do for a living.
It is worth it, but before you start a major project like that, do your homework. Talk to lots of people at retailers and and know the cost of all your materials and what unforseen complications may come up.
Talk to as many people as you can to get different opinions and advice.
If you love the house, you will make it worth it.
