Do you like to have company just drop by, or would you prefer that they call ahead?

Oh man, I always need people to call ahead. I feel so unprepared when people just drop on by. I like to clean up the house (which it definitely won't be if people drop by), get snacks/drinks/etc. set up for the people, and set things up nicely ahead of time.

Unless they'd like to be embarrassed, calling ahead is probably the best idea. Of course, it does raise some interesting possibilities if they don't.
