Why do goths and emotionals (emos) or whatever seem so moody all the time?

I mean, life can't be that bad. i understand that some people like to convey a certain image or whatever, but if you have no reason to be down, moody, and upset all the time, they WHY be that way?

Im just trying to understand their concept. i didn't grow up around people who dressed up and acted the way goths do or whatever.

Like they said on South Park: If they want to see real pain, visit a third world country.

.....or better yet, go to any low income neighborhood

Aaron, you are probably one of the most respectful people around here, i can understand. Look, the reason why emo's or goths are like that is because they expect too much of a great society. It is things at home which makes them down and moody and perhaps upset all the time. I know what made me depressed and made me upset all the time. Yes i understand that there are people in the third world countries who are suffering, but we in first world countries are suffering too. With that i mean with emotional distress and all kinds of things. My sister left when i was three and at the age of fourteen i found out she was really my cousin who got adopted. That was one of the most hardest things in my life. Other hard things in my life was that my mom brought her third world culture over here to Europe and does not understand a single thing i went through when i was younger. We should appreciate that we have things but we don't and we take it all for granted with out any thoughts. We should think about the ones in the third world countries. But we can't if we have problems at home that needs to get solved. The real pain they have in third world countries is famine, poverty and war. Over here, it's depression, that is a whole different thing and you can't bring it all together. They could be depressed over there too... But i respect your opinion though. I am down for many more reasons, greater than the ones above in my answer. I am an emo from the inside but i don't dress up like one. Don't you worry my friend. People emo's for many reasons, either they are outcasts and feel they can just fit in easily in that category or they are like that for real.

It is an easy way out. Why participate in anything? They feel they are going nowhere fast, because they haven't tried. I feel truly sorry for them. This really is the greatest time of their lives, and it really does get better from here. But if they don't try , they will never know. Sad, sad, sad

I agree that they don't even know the meaning of true pain, especially on a daily basis. All that whining is just annoying others, and making them miss out on the good things about life.

I was like that in highschool. It's usually just a faze. I don't know why I did it. It's just about fitting into some group that you feel the most comfortable in. I was pretty miserable in highschool though.

its just an act. Maybe some of them really are depressed, but i think its just teenageer thing too. Or some of them just want to fit-in with a group, no matter which it is.

They are just unhappy people, so they label themselves,so they can gain attention while they are being unhappy.

They have nothing better to do...seriously. It takes so much effort to become a sulking mass...they have nothing else to do.
