But do you know that Singaporeans are also laughing at other countries (which might include yours too) because Singapore is cleaner and wealthier than others? Im sure you've heard that Singapore has one of the highest percentage of millionaires in the world and we have low crime rates as compared to the world. Our education system is also one of the world's top five and I'm pretty sure it's definitely better than your country.

I'm an American expat here and at first I thought it was quite silly but I'm not sure if you've ever been to Singapore but it is just one of the cleanest places in the world. Honestly, nothing wrong with a mint! I don't think Singapore cares about the rest of the world laughing, they have low taxes, great laws and is one of the richest and safest countries in the world - who's laughing now?

they banned the sale of chewing gum because they want the safety and convenience of their citizens. That chewing gum has caused a multitude of problems when it was stuck on the train door.

Did they laugh at Singapore when Singapore became 2nd wealthiest country in Asia based on GDP, behind Japan? Or the Singapore became the country that had the highest number of millionaire per capita? Do Western countries laugh at Singapore's less than 5% income tax?

Singapore has some strange laws but it works for Singapore.

Do you know that Singapore laughs at those countries where their people step/sit on gum because some gum chewer decides that since they can chew gum, they can spit it anywhere. It makes train doors stuck also. Not to mention all that person's germs going everywhere.
I'm Singaporean and very happy that I've never had to scrape gum off my shoes. Laugh all you want. You're probably one of those who spits gum on streets.

This is your personal perception. Look at the damage and cost of cleaning up the sticky wastes left on the road, train, lift, walkway, wall, rubbish dump. Look around, how many of them actually ensure the sticky waste is properly packed up before dispose it into the rubbish bin?

Laugh all you can - I'm not bothered as long as I don't have disgusting gums stuck on my shoes and clothes and the taxes I pay are not wasted on cleaning and clearing public property of filthy gums spitted out by inconsiderate people!
