It is possible to be the 1st gear syncro. But you would get it crunching in to gear. Chances are much more likely to be a gear linkage instead. Not expensive, and depending on what one that needs replacing generally a quick job. (Up on a ramp) Get your local dealer to have a quick look to diagnose for sure.

i have this trouble sometimes when the engine is running cold in the morning. and thien it goes once the engine has warmed up. i think it is just one of those things. i sometimes have trouble getting it into reverse also i find if you lift the clutch up a tad then push it back down again it slips into gear that way..

Very comman problem also in reverse if you put it in2 another gear and then bk in2 1st this normally works. Mine used to do this Citroen Saxos do it 2 cause they have the same gearboxs

I've same trouble with a 206.I posted a similar question a few weeks ago and most responses were peugot are renowned for gearbox difficulties

Peugeot makes their gearboxes from balsa wood --- didn't you know that?
