My fiance and I aren't sure if we would like the name Christopher for the 1st name, middle name or even at all. His father's name is Michael.

If this helps or makes a difference...the father's last name is Cunningham.

My fiance is half Irish and I wouldn't mind having our son's name incorporate something Irish.

Boys names are so difficult...
Some suggestions -
Rory, Callum, Brian (all Irish) and Beven (maybe Irish)
Christopher will be shortened most of his life to "Chris", are you happy with that? If not then you should have it as a middle name.
If you like the traditional names, and I gather you do because you like Christopher, its a good time to be naming because they are not that popular at the moment, which means your baby has a good chance of being the only one in his class. SOme other traditionals are: Micheal, Robert, Andrew, Daniel.

When you hit it out of the park on the first try, would you go back and ask for another at-bat?

You found the name you like, so go with it. I also had a boy's name all picked out. It was tucked away because I had two daughters and thought that our family was complete. My little surprise came along, and my husband and I still liked our boy name. He's 16 now and loves his name. (By the way, he has my maiden name as a middle name and likes the distinction of it. His Dad and I are no longer married, and I took back my own name, so I am very happy with this decision. He uses it on all the paperwork, and it makes a clear connection between him and both parents.)

Christopher is defiantly a very noble sounding name.Means "bearing Christ", derived from Late Greek Χριστος (Christos) combined with φερω (phero) "to bear, to carry". Christopher was the legendary saint who carried the young Jesus across a river. He is the patron saint of travellers. Another famous bearer was Christopher Columbus, the explorer who reached the West Indies in the 15th century.

if you both like Christopher then keep it. You can decide the placement when you have another name. I've liked Nicholas for the entire pregnancy and were still looking for a name to go with it and what order to put it in.
