how do they come up with social security numbers??

Do they go by what town and state you live in or what?? or how do they come up with them....

The first three numbers indicate the state or region you're in. The rest are just luck of the draw.

First three digits reference the area you were born in

The next 2 are random "group numbers"

The last 4 are "serial numbers" that run in consecutive order for each group sequence.
