If your friend does not already know, he has no business doing it. Changing freon requires a recovery machine, and a vacuum pump. If he knows how to use them, and has access to them, then he already knows that R-12 and R-134 fittings are different, so you should have not had to ask this question. If he does not, he MIGHT make a mess that is going to cost you a fortune to fix. Be careful and good Luck. PS R-134a

You taurus is rather reliable. The 2003 kind does no longer have the transmission issues that before taurus' had, and the three.0 liter 12 valve or "vulcan" engine is the main reliable V6 Ford made in my opinion. I on no account see a important engine concern with the three.0 liter, aside from a uncommon party of a broken valve spring and defective IAC valves, that are trouble-free upkeep. you will get very stable service out of your Taurus.

well a lot of there answers are correct you should find the leak first use a recovery machine etc. But all that costs money that assume you do not have. You can buy r134 recharge containers at parts stores and you can charge it yourself and hope it is a small leak and you will get thru the summer. But if you do this realize that the leak will not fix itself and sooner or later a professional (Like me) will have to look at it..

in 93 a lot of them was still r-12,they didn't actually switch over to 134-a until 95,and everything after was 134 also, you can look on the sticker under the hood,it tells exactly what it takes, good luck hope this helps.
