You are better off just going to Europe, that way you can interact with people, take your time and wander about.

Fact is taking a cruise isn't really traveling. It's taking a vacation but isn't travel. You get too little time in locations and too little interaction with real people. You spend almost all your time on the ship. One of the wonders of travel is getting lost and finding new and special things in some city.

Take a cruise if you want to relax and vacation. However you need to travel about to really get the feel for a foreign country.

If you want to see Europe, the best way to do it is to go in a self drive car. If you are more interested in a sea voyage then take a cruise to a European port, then see the various places that you want to see by going from one place to another by land or air.

Fly there. Backpack and take the train around the country. It's fabulous.
