Your mucus plug begins to dislodge as your cervix begins to dilate. Tiny blood vessels (capillaries) may break along with it and that's the "bloody" part of the bloody show. Some women lose it in the shower or on the potty and never notice it. Also it doesn't always come out in one big lump, you may lose it in clumps and strings (sounds gross I know). But if you are already dilated a good bit then chances are it is already gone...
And to answerer Just Me...of course you lost it or you wouldn't have a baby, since the mucus plug "corks" off your cervix...you lost it, maybe you just didn't NOTICE it...C'mon peeps...now someone is saying they lost it AFTER their water broke...impossible...the water is what the baby is in, and the plug seals off the cervix so nothing can get IN or OUT...so it sure can't come out AFTER your water... the mucus plug isn't floating around in there with the baby LOL!!!

I lost mine a week before I went into labor. Some women never notice losing it at all. It's an early sign of labor, but not everyone sees it.

Not everyone loses it before labor. I didn't lose mine until I had already been in labor for 12 hours @ the hospital. My nurse said she never saw any of hers (3 kids), it happened sometime during delivery. Everyone is different.

Up to 2 weeks before labor. Though most don't lose it until they are in labor. Some lose it in pieces, others in one chunk.

I lost mine at 39 weeks, just after my water broke. My son was born less than two days later.

You don't loose it; you lose it.
Second, as with anything, you lose it when you don't put it back where it belongs. A place for eveything and everything in its place!
