If you are going to start as a cover band, then you have to cover wide variety that your audience is familiar with. Classic rock, 80's, 90's, pop, etc.

Well, it all depends on the crowd, but speaking for myself, you can't go wrong with the perennial favourites :
Knocking on Heaven's Door (GNR version)
Smoke on the water (Deep Purple)
Sweet child o' mine (GNR)
Love Hurts (Nazareth's version)
Temple of the king or Catch the Rainbow (Rainbow)
Show me the Way (Styx)
Cannonball (Damien Rice)
Don't Know what you've got (till it's gone) (Cinderella)
Coming Home (Cinderella)
Heaven or Summer of 69 (Bryan Adams)
and tons more
All the best, guys!

well, that's mostly up to you and your band, but please, please don't make any more of that lame excuse for "alternative" they have on the radio today. I can't stand it. It sounds all the same. So distasteful... I personally like the Ramones, and Sex Pistols, and you know, older punk bands. They are the best.
