Chances are that the restore CD won't work on a new drive. Reason being is that some laptops have a special format to part of the drive that the restore CD looks for to verify compatibility. Anyway, there shouldn't be a problem using a standard XP bootable CD, but you may need drivers for a few things. These "might" be on the restore CD - so install that restore CD when the XP install needs to find drivers. You are pretty much down to trying this.

Good luck!

You must use the Restore CD that came with your computer. If the one you are attempting to use is for a different brand or model, it will not have the proper software for your system. Also, if there is a incomparability issue involving the installation key, the system probably won't load the software.

You can probably use a standard XP cd to load windows, but there will be some driver issues. You can probably get the right drivers from the computer manufactures web site. The XP cd that you use must be new because if it has already been used in another machine you will not be able to register it, creating a situation where windows will run for 30 days and then it will stop responding, IE, no longer work.

Depends on what you got a license for. If your system vendor gave you a restore CD, you can use it only to restore your system on the EXISTING hard disk; you cannot use a restore CD to install to a new hard disk.

If you need to install to a new hard disk, you need to PURCHASE a license - afresh.
