We only need to run air about two weeks out of the summer (with a small window unit)...like the last week in July and the first week in Aug! Then Fall starts! I have ceiling fans in almost every room and we live on top of a mountain, so there is always a breeze.

Central air. I do the window thing in January and February, and again in November and December; it's just too hot to rely on open windows in Texas. We also have a ceiling fan in the living room. Being in a "mobile home" (aka trailer, aka tin can in the sun) the vents are all in a straight line; the bedroom at one end is so warm you can't sit in it; the one closest to the unit (and the bathroom attached, is so cold you can't stand it!

Window a/cs and fans. And ceiling fans. I plan to get central air this summer, though.

We have window air conditioners, but we also keep all the blinds closed during the day, to keep the sun out. It does keep the house cooler by doing this.

We also have ceiling fans in each room, to circulate the air.

Central air and I try to keep the blinds closed when it is really hot to kind of keep the sun from shinning in to much.

I'm in the deepest of the deep south so I use central air and ceiling fans.

I don't care if my "home" is cool....I care if I'm Cool!
So I get naked and ducktape zip lock baggies full of ice all over the "hot spots" ;)

another good technique is...
Get a Towel wet
Put it in the freezer for an hour

set a fan up next to the bed

Remove towel from freezer

Lay towel over self , in the breeze of the fan.

Presto!

or I go hang-out in Walmart and drink tons of Slurpee's
(clothing recommended for this one)

I keep the sun from shining in. I keep the shades down during day and open everything up at night..close everything in the morning. Stays pretty cool. Otherwise I will use a fan. If it's extremely hot..I'll head to the lake.
