I've known a few personally, yes, but the story that came immediately to mind is the self-destruction of jazz icon Charlie Parker, who is considered by most knowledgeable people to have been the most influential force in 20th Century music.
His constant diet of heroin and liquor caused him to be institutionalized twice and to attempt suicide at least once.
It got so bad that even those who worshipped his great gift wouldn't hire him to play, because he was so difficult to deal with.
When he died, the medical examiner initially entered him in the record as "unidentified ***** male, estimated age 55-65."
He was 34.

Yes, my brother did. He was addicted to drugs, got off of it and started drinking. He looked about 30 years older than he actually was when he died.

A couple of friends I went to school with both died of cirrhosis of the liver.In their 30's. I almost died from drug addiction.I see people at my work all day long who you can tell are on the verge of being taken over by their demons. Its so sad.

1) My grandmother passed of lung cancer, from cigarettes.

2) My first boyfriend is dead from a drug overdose. (Xanax)

3) My first love is dead from a heart attack caused by cocaine.

4) My grandfather was an alcoholic and he passed out in the street and was hit by a car causing him to live as a quadriplegic, until he died 2 years later.

yes, a great many honey, I lost friends to both and watched several go that way in the dives around home, the bar had 10 single rooms upstairs with one bath on a floor, almost everyone of those guys were lifer alcoholics and that was the last stop.

Yes, my great granfather died from liver failure b/c he drank too much. I've had several family members die from smoking cigarettes all of their lives. And I've known a few people I went to school with who died while using illegal substances, one was only 23 and died from heart failure. Very sad

A neighbor of mine died of alcoholism. He was a very shy kid that started drinking and just couldn't stop. He ended up drinking himself to death, they found the body in a local park. His brain became permanently wired to find drink, and nothing else seemed to matter to him until it killed him.

Yeah, my grandparents were both alcoholics and died from it. Guess it is part of the reason that I don't drink much.

yes, my best friend ever since she was born, (i was 3) her dad died of heroin and cocaine overdose when she was just 3 years old. and one of my aunts took tomany prescription pills, overtime, she became mentally retarded and in her later years before she died, she was living in a home for adults. she did not remember who i was, nor her sister, (my grandmother). one of my close highschool friends, david died after first trying opium. he had just come from mexico, and he had better grades than all of us. drugs suck man!!
