I just got a new house and it turns out the refrigerator doesn't have a cold line running to it. We're buying a new fridge and we want one that has a water/ice dispenser, but you need a cold water line run to it. Does anyone have any idea how much that might cost? Would it be possible for me to do that myself? I have some money, but not a whole lot, and I really want to get this done. Please help!

If I run the line from my sink, should it be above the valve underneath my sink?

IT TOTALY DEPENDS ON WHERE YOUR FRIG IS IN RELATION TO A WATER SUPPLY
YOIU CAN GO FROM YOUR SINK OR IF YOU HAVE A
BASEMENT THAT MITE BE THE BEST WAY. YOU SHOULD CHECK WITH THE PEOPLE YOU BUY THE FI\RIG FROM FIRST AND SEE WHAT THEY CHARGE.

If you 1.) have copper pipes and 2.) have access to those pipes from your basement or crawl space, you can do this yourself for not a lot of money.

You'll need to get an ice-maker water line kit that has a clamp on needle valve. When installed correctly with clamps and rubber gasket, the needle punctures the pipe and is opened up to allow water to flow into the line. It works great. A kit with a plastic (usually PVC) line will be more forgiving. (link below of an example kit)

Of course, you will need to drill a small hole through the floor to feed the plastic line to the ice maker. And PLEASE read all of the instruction included with the kit before starting to make sure you're comfortable doing all that is required BEFORE you start. (It's better to bail out before you start than to do so half way through!)

Good luck-

You can do it yourself. I am not a big fan of the needle valve. You can buy a double outlet water supply valve for the cold water line under your sink. Needle valves only punch a small hole in the water line and are prone to clogging/leaking due to calcium deposits in the water. Plumbers charge their hourly rate which can be quite expensive. I would also recommend a filter in the line.
