I vote for the players who deserve to be there based on their performance during that particular season. When you vote for players simply because they're from your favorite team, or they are your favorite player, or the worst player, despite their performance, then you minimize and degrade the purpose of voting.

The players should do the voiting. I am older person and used to love the games in the 60s and 70s when the player picked the all stars. The games were so intense then.
Today, I stuff the box for members of the NY Mets. Why should I be different than anyone else.

Most people will pick players they like with no regard for their performance during the year. I say give the selection choice back to the manager's and player's who know which players are at the top of their game going into the all-star game. Let's have a real game at the highest level like it used to be years ago when Pete Rose knocked the crap out of Ray Fosse, that's real baseball.

I typically vote for the ones that have been playing consistently well for the first half of the season, not the big names that seem to always make the team regardless of how they are playing.

lets all be honest, we all, almost exclusively vote for our hometown players and when none are available, for the very well-known or like-able players
its mostly just a popularity contest
