I was chatting online and this guy knew some personal info. about me and there is no way he could've known. Could my weirdo neighbor be hacking onto my computer? Should I contact the police? Can they tell if he has? The problem is that I've written some fairly perverted stuff and I don't want the whole world to know!

It's quite unlikely that your neighbour will have "hacked" into your wireless network in order to intercept communication.

The much more likely scenario is that you have a trojan (kind of a virus) on your PC. You should run full virus/spyware scans to make sure.

Trojans basically sit on your computer and allow the person who put it there to see what you're doing/typing and many other things like downloading files from your computer and changing settings etc.

Actually yes! Don't fret though all you have to do is make sure your connection is secured at the most by a WEP encryption key...I guess what this wierdo dude has done is joined your wireless network...and he is recognised as a part of your network, so he can easily access your files information about you and stuff...If it reaches a point to where you can't stand his harassment...Im sure wherever you live there must be some kind of law against harassment...the choice is ultimately yours...

It is possible. First you need to secure you wireless connection. Go to http://www.ghacks.net/2005/12/14/how-to-secure-your-wireless-network/ and find out how to do that. Then run some scans to make sure your computer is clean.

pdate and run your Anti-Virus program. Don't have one? You can run a free online scan from CA.

Run Spybot and Adaware weekly.

Download, update and run Spybot---http://www.safer-networking.org/... . Don't forget to use the Immunize feature.

Download, update and run Adaware---http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaw...

Now to prevent spyware from being installed in the first place....

Download SpywareBlaster---http://majorgeeks.com/download2859.html
SpywareBlaster doesn't scan and clean for spyware - it prevents it from ever being installed.

It's main features include:
- Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
- Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
- Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.

Yes, if your neighbor has a criminal mind, he/she can hack into your computer and steal all of your data with "wireless internet".

Technically speaking 'yes', but it isn't that easy. If you want to ensure that your messages aren't being 'sniffed' then you can encrypt your signal. Check the owner's manual of your wireless device for details.

If your wireless network is not secured/encrypted somebody smart enough can get to your system and maybe installed a keylogger or something.
