So do and sometimes it's even successful. Generally though fish don't crossbreed because the mating signals are different and usually even if they do the genetic material is so dofferent there can't be any viable babies produced.

Looking at the answers, I think your question was mis-understood. Some species have not been breed in aquarium settings because the requirements for this have not been met,or are not completely understood. There are regular reports of species being reproduced in aquaria for the first time,usually by dedicated hobbyists who spend months or even years trying to find the right set of conditions. If, on the other hand,you mean species cross breeding(one specie X another specie),your question has been amply answered by everyone else.

t tropical fish and other fish should breed. it may they will breed in the summer or the spring

For the same reason cats and dogs and cows and horses ect dont inter breed.

Why don't chimpanzees and lowland gorillas breed?

Why don't ducks and geese breed?

Why don't sparrows and robins breed?

The answer is that they can't, and they don't want to anyway.

The same reason that Chimpanzees don't mate with Gorillas, or Blackbirds don't mate with Starlings, and Geese don't mate with ducks....................... because they ARE different species (sigh.............)

just cause they live together doesn't mean their gonna be at it!!

Sometimes they do.I had Cyclids that cross bred.They look dull.
