re: UK TV documentary 18/5/2007, Dispatches, on Channel 4... detailing plight of girls / women in Afghanistan... for example: girls as young as 7 sold into marriage, kept house-bound, beaten by husband, mother-in-law, not allowed to be educated, they cook, clean, sew (are forced to remain ignorant to suit the men)... one woman every 28 minutes dying in child-birth, their husband decides if / when they need medical help... result: ruptured uterus... once girl has died, the village forget all about her... so system carries on.
The poor girls / women are using kerosene to set fire to themselves... to show that in life they suffered... if they live, in pain as few drugs...

Things worse in Afghanistan now since the allies war... the huge sums for reconstruction have disappeared - gone to the rich, not the poor...

Surely, there must be some way other women can reach these women, to let them know we care, we support their wish for greater freedom/s, for education, for more equality...

The women who are free need to help their sisters (not preach 'there's no answer.') The men who are free need to educate their country-men.
And all of who are free, should insist our governments ensure our money is spent to help relieve the suffering!

Unfortunately, this is something that only the Afghan people can do. We can send money and we can send our opinions but that's not going to change anthing. Change will only come when the people themselves decide not to accept it anymore. Many groups in many countries had to struggle for freedom and when the women realise that they can do it, they will. One thing that bugged me about the documantary was the way they kept saying 'since the allied invasion' and 'the aid money is not getting through'. Somehow, everything becomes the fault of the UK/US and not the people livving there. This is their culture, not ours, that advocates this. Their parents selling their children, not ours. It's too easy to say 'what should we do?' the question is 'What should they do?' We should offer our support where it's needed, but we cannot solve the world's ills if the world doesn't want to help itself.

for century's all over the world the one and the most who always suffers are the women.

unfortunately in Islam Females consider the lowest of all. In Islam, they believe and follow it to letter, that women are only
good for child bearing, keeping house clean and cooking.
and these section of Islam called Radical Islam.
That males are the MASTERS.

How ever moderate Islam are not like that, the ones who are
educated they treat Females as equeal.

in Oprah show once there was this woman who runs a organisation which it calss RAWA.

i believe monthly payment of $10.00 or more can help those poor souls to stand on their feet's, or hopefully they can flee.

May God have mercy on all of them.

Spread the word around and make these woman know that we are caring for them and prayer also helps. I know I am ironical but hey give me any other reason and we can follow. Our funds are all stolen by who knows and they dont help one bit so where is the help needed plus the muslims will never want our help. They hate UK USA Israel and all countries that poke their nose into their affairs. They dont bother about France and Europe and Aust and other countries coz they dont care a damn about them. UK and USA people have awesome hearts but unfortunately the muslims dont want or like people who offer to care and guide their women and men. Blame it on ego.

The reason we have terrorism is that religion is allowed to flourish. Imagine, no religion at all = No paradise/heaven/72 virgins = no terrorists. It is only when religion itself is wiped out that people will stop blowing themselves up. This problem goes much further back than President Reagan. All politicians appear to have made questionable judgement calls but I don't think we can blame the current problems on them.

I watched the C4 programme last night and along with my boyfriend was horrified. The programme was hard hitting and grim- yet another example of aid/funding not reaching its targets- where has the money gone that was promised?! The irony of Laura Bushes statement along with Cherie Blair's was gobsmacking- yet another publicity stunt for their husbands! I think it an almost impossible situation- how can we help- give money- that will be swallowed up by administration? that film should be shown to Blair&Bush and their Governments- the ones who promised help and freedom!

but what about the poor women in Africa - and even the children for that matter. things arent worse at all - with the Taliban control during the 80s women were practically non existent.

you could just go on and on couldnt you tho - there are 'poor' people all over the world suffering - even in Britain - look in your own city and there are homeless people sleeping rough, kids being mistreated and abused. Wehre does it end?

I feel your pain, yet again the west fails to take advantage and gives a whole other generation over to haters of the west. It was us who encouraged women to become more equal in Afghanistan, so did then we left them to it now its worse than before.

Is it any wonder my so many people resent us?
