Christina was getting cold feet. Merideth talked her into walking down the isle & as she was getting ready to, Burke appeared through the doors & told her that it was over. She said she felt like getting married was the right thing to do & he said that was the wrong answer, that love was the right answer (I'm paraphrasing). She then went back to the apartment & Burke's things were gone. She started crying saying that she was free and tried getting her gown off & jewelry. It was very emotional & sad.

Yang, girl in the wedding dress, was broken up with by Burke husband to be just before the alter. She did not want a big wedding but did it all for him, lost her eye brows, wore a choke necklace, and he was gone from the appartment! Grey the one cutting the dress off needed Yang to walk down the aisle and get married to support her chance of getting married!

Christina was the one wearing the gown and her friend Meredith was helping her out of the dress because Christina was suppose to marry Dr.Burk, but that didn't happen because he felt that he was pushing her to marry him when she really didn't want to. She felt relief when she found out that he left her and she also felt suffocated in her wedding gown, that's why Meredith was cutting the dress off of her.

Christiana Yang (the chick in the wedding dress) was just dumped by her fiance, Dr. Burke, on their wedding day. She went back to the apartment to notice that he have left and it hit her that he actually left her.
Now her friend Meredith (the other chick) is having problems with her boyfriend and they might be breaking up too

the dress scene was a symbolic scene--the dress is a symbol of imprisonment justified by Yangs rants 'Im Free...'
the scene is also very ironical because as Meredith was counting on the marriage as some kind of support--it ended up destroying every iota of hope she had of marriage herself.

She was left at the alter and having a meltdown when she got home and realized that he'd moved out as well.

her fiance told her he didn't want to get married anymore because he knew that she was just doing it to make him happy--yes, she loves him, but she just wasn't ready for marriage. she ended up going home to the apartment that they share and she saw that all of his stuff was gone--he was gone. she said "i'm free...damnit" and started to cry and then started freaking out about it because she quite clearly did not want to be free. it's just that it took him leaving her for her to realize that he's what she really wants.
