Back in my hippie days, most of us thought it would be legal "any day now." Some places reduced it to the level of a parking ticket. But the trend went away, and I don't know why.

Marijuana is so obviously useful to many medical conditions, and is less harmful than alcohol. Yet the entrenched control mechanisms are full of paychecks and expense accounts, and it seems we are stuck.

We Baby Boomers are getting old, and need our comforts. What can we do to insist that the government stop this invasive control?

I attended rallies in the mid 70's, and thought it would be legal shortly. Still waiting. I try to confront those running for office, about the legalization of pot. If they don't support it, I let them know I can't support them unless they change thier stance. I did move to a community that treats possession as a misdemeanor, rather than a felony. Now that I'm retired, I always try to influence people as to the benefits of smoking pot. Personally, It saved my life, when I was able to quit
drinking alchohol, and smoking cigarettes, over 35 years ago, for surely I would have been an alchoholic these many years. If the Government taxed and restricted it like Alchohol and cigarettes, everyone would benefit. You and I would from not having to go to the local crime figure to get supplied. This is why pot leads to harder drugs. Dealers have no scruples, and will sell to your daughter or son, and conveniently introduce them to the harder stuff. At least a liquor store checks I.D's, and doesn't sell to minors. Obviously, buckskinbabydoll has never smoked any. Alchohol kills over 50 thousand people yearly. Cigarettes kill just as many every year. Cars kill an alarming number of people. Marijuana kills NO ONE. Tests have been performed. All Positive. Public tests have not been performed because the Government will not sanction them because they know the government will be found to be hypocrites when the truth is finally known.

Who the heck said it prevented cancer and glaucoma? Someone needs to get their facts straight. Marijuana alleviates the symptoms and pains of glaucoma and alleviates the nausea people with cancer experience when they get chemo. Good grief!

As many already know marijuana was legal at one time until the cotton industry got pissed off because hemp was cheaper to grow and could be turned into many things that cotton is now used for. So they started a campaign to make it illegal saying things like it was addicting. (For the record, marijuana is not physically addicting like heroin or other drugs so that's a false belief ) and that it made your a crazy serial killer. It can be abused just like any other substance like alcohol or cigarettes.

I think the only reason it has not been legalized is, it would be very difficult to regulate. It is a weed after all. But the fact that they make it such a heinous crime if you possess or smoke is silly really. Our prisons are way over crowded with people who have marijuana violations.

You answered your own question.

You have to figure out a way to stop the flow of money going into the pockets of the drug warriors.

Politicians who favor legalization of any illegal drug would have to keep it secret long enough to push the legislation through. Included in the list of politicians needed, all serving at the same time, President, majority of senators, majority of congressmen, majority of supreme court justices.

I'm not putting any money on it.

The drug companies have the money and the power to stop any legalization of pot. They haven't found a way to corner the market on it.

You would think with a coke head in the oval office, drugs would be more widely accepted.

The hypocrisy in this country is running rampant.

I hope it never happens. Don't push the junk about 'medical uses'. What a joke. Those that push this push the benefits of hemp rope and other garbage. The addicts, yes 'Mary Jane' is a drug that is addicting, are generally the ones pushing because they don't like being labeled criminals. Just like illegal aliens don't like the label 'illegal'. This stuff is bad for you in more ways then it can help issues on the surface. If there is pain or discomfort it is your bodies way of telling you that there is a problem. Fix the problem don't mask the symptoms. You drug dealers and drug users need to understand that this stuff is not good for you. We need a clean and sober country. Not one that clouds itself with mind altering toxins.

I don't think there has been anything shown where marijuana is useful to a medical condition. If you could point to one article or controlled test it would help.

Provide some good reasons as to why legalizing marijuana would be a good thing perhaps?

Marijuana has no medicinal value. It doesn't prevent glaucoma nor does it prevent cancer; it does more harm than good. The only thing it's really used for is so people can get high. True that when someone drinks alcohol it impairs their judgement and their reflexes..people shouldn't drink and then drive. The same thing goes for someone that gets high, It impairs their judgement and their reflexes also. Therefore, how is it less harmful than alcohol??? No it should not be legalized.

How about it we legalize marijuana, but to prove to the public that it is not tied to crime, how about anyone convicted of a crime and found to be a user of marijuana automatically has their punishment increased, perhaps even doubled?
