I put a new battery (correct one) in my car 4 months ago and it ran fine. I haven't started it for 4 months and when I tried today it wouldn't start. All lights and indicators appear fine, but when I try to start it only makes a light whirring sound and does not even make the sound like it is trying to kick over. I'm sure this has something to do with the fact that I have not used it in 4 months. Any help?

If you jump start the car, leave the cables attached to the jumping car for about 20-30 minutes so the charging load is split between two alternators or else the dead battery might put too much of a load on the one alternator to charge it up and fry the alternator. It's only meant to maintain a slightly discharged battery, not charge a fully dead battery, especially if you leave it run at idle. Best to hook up a regular battery charger to the battery or take it out and take it to Autozone or some other parts store that will charge and test the battery for free. If you don't start a car for a long period of time, buy a trickle charger with automoatic shutoff and hook it up to maintain the battery charge....much better for the battery.

As stated above - double check the battery and try to charge it some. Wierd things happen to cars after 4 months of non-use. The reason you don't lose a battery after 4 months in a driven car is that it recharges from the motor. Without this recharge, it may have died.

Make sure you have gas in the car (probably do, but...)

If you have a kill switch (in whatever form), make sure it is off - that's happened to me before.

If you know how, check the spark plugs - they are cheap to replace if dead or damaged.

I would try charging the battery for a little bit, and then try it again. If it doesn't start at that point, you may want to try making sure that all of the connections on the battery are clean and free of corrosion and that the connections are good.

You answered your own question. Cars have hidden battery drainers in form of radios, computers , clocks and who knows what else. Check manual with correct method of jump starting and do it. Do it wrong and your dealer will love you.
