Have you ever looked at soil in the garden department and the volume is listed in quarts????

Here is a useful formula to compare bag sizes:

1 cubic foot = 7.5 gallons or 30 quarts
1 gallon or 4 quarts = .133 cubic feet

& if you are figuring stone , 1 cu. yd = ~ 1.5 tons . If trying to figure mulch , assuming 2" deep , 1yd = 27 cu feet / (1/6) = 142 sq. ft of coverage / yd .
