I bought a dresser at a yard sale and when we got it home and in the house, it just REEKS of stale cigarette smoke. I tried leaving outside for a few days, I've wiped it with wood wipes and even sprayed Febreeze on it. Any ideas ?

Have you tried putting a box of baking soda and some charcoal in the drawers? If that doesn't work, I'd wipe the inside with some warm water and vinegar, and then let it dry a day or two in the sun. The outside of the dresser should be varnished, and so the cigarette smell should just wipe off, I think the problem is from the inside of the drawers and the wood surrounding the drawers on the inside. For the hard to reach areas (the inside of the dresser) just try squirting the vineger and water inside, as much as you can reach.

Yes, first wipe with White Vinegar allow this mixture to stay on for about two and half hours to three, then wipe off with a damp rag or sponge being careful not to wet the furniture too much, then allow to dry, when dry place a container of Baking soda and Kitty litter mix these two ingredients together then place inside drawers and and any areas of the furniture that has doors to open spaces such as something like a cupboard would be like, leave there for one week approximately, then change the mixture again to fresh baking soda and kitty litter, then when that mixture has been changed after one week, you can then keep one in there for a period of one year replacing it every two to three months, this will help keep it fresh smelling and absorb any odors, Good Luck !

I have to tell you it will be difficult. But there is hope!!! Try washing it down with vinegar and water and then use murphy's oil soap. But before you do that, try keeping it in the sun for as long as you can. ( I mean days) Good luck.

You would probably have to sand and refinish it. It'll take less energy than actually cleaning it off.
