I have an HP a1730n and I want to replace the nvidia integrated 6150LE with a Geforce 8600 GTS. Do I have to do something to take out the 6150? Because I think it is attached to the mother board.

I understand that I need to use BIOS to reroute the place the PC looks for the video card, or just disable onboard graphics using the BIOS. In addition, do I have to uninstall the drivers for the integrated card before opening up the case?

BIOS does everything for you once you plug in the 8600GTS. BIOS will disable integrated graphics and would not allocate system RAM to it.

The 8600GTS draws about 47 watts. If your power supply is weak (esp. on the +12V rail), you will just get a black screen. Do not rely on minimum power supply recommendation. The power supply will just run HOT at FULL LOAD (esp. the +12V rail). Get a HIGHER rated one. It will run cooler and last longer.

See the link for the HP FAQ.
if your PC was using on-board video (no video card), then disable on-board video in the BIOS to prevent possible setup problems:

1.
Press the F1 key repeatedly when the first screen appears.
A BIOS setup screen displays (BIOS setup screens vary depending on model of PC).
2.
Use the directions on the BIOS screen to find and disable on-board video. The on-board video setting is usually on the Advanced page.
NOTE: In some cases, the BIOS does not have the option to disable the onboard video. In this case, select AGP or PCI as the primary output. The BIOS and the operating system should then detect the new video card instead of the onboard video.
3.
Press F10 to save the settings and exit.

No, you cannot remove integrated graphics cards. Just insert the new one. Then go into BIOS when the PC boots and set the integrated graphics to Auto or as low as it'll go. That way RAM isnt being wasted in the integrated graphics

It's integrated, meaning soldered in to the motherboard. You can't remove it.

Install the new graphics card and go into the BIOS and tell it to use the new graphics card, usually on the Advanced page.

Then in Windows, install the new drivers and everything should work properly.

You don't have to remove the onboard video...it will disable itself as soon as you add another card...
Make SURE that your Power Supply can Handle the 8600GTS and that you have and extra 12v line to go to the Graphic Card...
Most of these new Powerful graphics cards need extra power going directly to the card....Check out all the specs carefully.

Integrated means it's built into the motherboard. To answer your question:

Leave it alone if you plan on using two monitors.
- or -
Disable it by going into the BIOS. There's settings in the BIOS to disable integrated components (like the network adapter, video, etc. if they are built-in).

NO! Sure is NO!! u can't take of the intergerted video.. is stick together with your board while at the same time u still have to slot to put in your new card.. just got BIOS to disable your intergerted video after you physically install the new card, then make sure to plug your monitor cable to the new card not the board. maybe u can ask the shop or fren to help you fix it if u dunno how to fix it.
