My male guppy for the past day has been wiggling exessively (swishing his tail and whole body back and forth frantically). It doesn't look normal and he is also swimming around the tank really fast. He has never acted this way before, which makes me think something is wrong. What could it be? Is he sick?

That's called the Shimmies or livebearer disease and is usually caused by a lack of electrolytes in the water. The best and quickest cure is adding about 2 teaspoons per gallon of salt to the tank. That should clear it up within 24 hours or so.

Is his color normal, eating habits the same? It maybe a parasite such as ich especially if you notice it scratching itself on the gravel, if none of the above applies, it may be trying to catch the attention of any females in the tank, sometime they will wiggle their tails like bright flags to impress their desired mate, they also do it to challenge other fish to a chase in which case if they win the swim race their tails may become brighter to impress the females as well. Good Luck.

they're likely mating. the purely time I observe a male chasing a woman is for the period of mating, and this makes because you reported that the small one chaces the better one and female guppies are commonly larger. The men are commonly smaller with a particular fin on their undersides referred to as the gonopodium. in case you observe this fin turn round as he chases the female, then you are able to make confident that he's in actuality a male.
