Never before can I recall so many major problems facing our country with no workable solutions being presented. Terrorisms, energy, deficit spending, healthcare cost, global climate shift, illegal aliens, and the export of jobs overseas are among the basket full of problems the country faces today. Yet we see no intelligent debate on these subjects in Washington, just partisanship bickering.
Is our government broken? Will we be in this political limbo for the next two years?

Our government doesn't work well because it tries to do too many things at once.

Government works best when it's limited in size and scope. The fewer functions it has, the more efficiently it will run. And the freer we'll be.

In case you haven't noticed the government has had problems it hasn't solved for some time, and I'm not just talking about since 2000.

Let's take this one thing at a time.

Terrorism first showed it's ugly head in this country at the Oklahoma Bombing and those were home grown. It wasn't till the first WTC attack terrorism came from outside this country. With terrorism about all you can do is play bob the mole. Government is already doing that and some don't like how they are doing it.

Energy is a big problem that shouldn't be. There will always be a need for oil in some form but we shouldn't be as dependant on it as we are. We've an adundance of coal but it's messy and adds CO2 that many think is causing problems. If we had more electrical power we we wouldn't need as much oil. Environmentalists have effectively halted Nuclear and Hydroelectric construction. Both do not produce CO2. Wind and Solar are extremely expensive and can't be used everywhere. What would you like government to do to get more 'clean' power?

Deficit spending has been going on for about four decades now. Without scraping many popular programs (incumbents would be sent home wholesale) or taxing like Sweden does (that would cause the next Boston Tea Party and incumbents would be sent home wholesale) I don't see a solution. Fiscal responsibility was what brought the Republicans into the majority. Failure to stay in the fiscal responsibility mode is what sent them home.

Healthcare costs- We could nationalize the entire healthcare system, doctors, nurses, hospitals and clinics, and the drug companies. Do you really want that?

Global climate shift- The ice caps are melting on Mars and Neptune too, not just on Earth. Mother Nature will do things her way. Adapt to it or die, the dinosaurs died, they didn't adapt.

Illegal aliens- pull troops from Germany and elsewhere and put them on the borders. It's a simple solution but presently against the law. Look up Posse Commitatus.

We are in a global economy now. Manufacturers are going to go where there is cheap labor. What are you going to do to stop them? Throw them in jail? I don't think you are going to get US worker to work for what some thind world person will.

But the bottom line is the public expects government to control everything but that is fascism (not what we really want) and they can't do that.

You are right on one aspect there IS too much partisan bickering.

And to answer your last question. It will be political limob for far past the end of George;s terms in office, unless the partisan bickering stops. Down with ALL political parties

The only thing that will keep us in political limbo for the next 2 years is the Democrats playing politics instead of enacting legislation that will not get the veto.

They are game-playing. Do not expect to see any legislation regarding healthcare. They are saving that for after the Presidential election.

Look at the illegal immigration amnesty legislation, for an example of game-playing. The president's stance on illegal immigration is one of his supporters' biggest criticisms of him, and look at what Congress is drawing up?

We should be so lucky. The problem is it's very effective at destroying the system of government envisioned by our founders. From the entitlements to foreign aid to agriculture subsidies to wars in foreign lands, America is broke.

Yes, it is broken. Our government is too involved in trying to correct every percieved ill in society.

It is broken and we will be in limbo. The problem is the democrats are pandering and the republicans are so out of touch, no one is getting anything done. As I said before we need to run the whole bunch out of there.

The slim Democratic majority in the Senate is not enough to get anything worthwhile accomplished. Too much legislation is getting stuck at that level and the Democrats don’t have enough votes in either house to override presidential vetoes.

Yes, you can count on it. Partisan bickering has taken control. Meanwhile, they're selling us down the drain.
