I do occasionally as well,.. I try and catch it and make fun of it myself before someone has to tell me what a stupid question. On here I don't, I only ask a few what I think are good questions.

I try not to but sometimes I'm truely stunned by the occasional stupid as can be, question that comes out of my mouth!

I think it is more about intention.
If it is intended to be stupid, then it is a stupid question.
If it is a genuine enquiry, then even if it seems stupid to the reader/listener, then I would argue that it is not a stupid question but one from someone that is uniformed or ignorant.(in the true sense of the word and not meaning rude)
