They are a long way from Lincoln.
Anytime somebody says that they "don't recall" as much as Alberto Gonzales did, you can bet that they recall d**n well whatever it is they did, they just never thought they'd have to account for it.
Republicans' feet are being held to the fire and they are being forced do all sorts of things they never wanted to do -- like answer questions about the Bush Administration's incompetence, debate the war in Iraq and get rid of tax breaks for Big Oil. With Republicans against the wall and out of power, there is no smear campaign too low or too cheap.
Need proof? Look at how quickly they got in line to lie about Speaker Pelosi's trip to the Middle East. Or that they've already launched attacks targeting the entire Democratic freshman class. Or the fact that not a day has gone by without a Republican claiming Democrats don't support the troops.
It appears that the republican will self destruct. Hopefully the good republicans can reform a new party

In truth, there are no conservatives or republicans left today.

McCain and Ron Paul are the closest things to republicans that the party has.

This is why the republican party has gone down the tubes...they have lost their proud conservative principles.

If someone like Obama wins the White House, it could be a good 16-20 years before the republicans see any kind of power in this country again.

People are fed up.

If the Iraq war is not winding down by the November, 2008 elections, you can kiss the republican party goodbye.

i have been reading about how issues cycle out, and that i form of consider that. I yet i imagine this time is slightly diverse. Republicans managed the domicile and Senate, besides because the Presidency for a minimum of three years. They were like crack addicts in a crack domicile. Spent money everywhere, billions nevertheless lacking that were meant to flow to the conflict. 2006 comes alongside, and voters vote them out like they were given stuck in mattress with a hooker. considering that that aspect they have not had one effective ingredient to furnish. at the same time as Dems lost the domicile and senate in 1995, it took them 12 years to get it decrease back. i trust it is going to take the Republicans a minimum of that lengthy to get decrease back one or both branches, if in any respect. There gained't be sufficient sturdy republicans left to vote for.

Ron Paul is the only hope they have in my mind. If he can bring them back to being the Republican party that Ronald Reagan was part of, they might have a shot. But otherwise, the 9 other candidates dont even come close to measuring up to Reagan and the old Republican party.

I wish there was – though wishes don’t really make things happen. I am afflicted by two democrat congressmen/women and they are real losers but I write them weekly expressing my dissatisfaction. I have all but given up on writing the republican party as they don’t even make the correct noises. At least the two idiots I have representing me make the correct noises and then do what they want.

I cover media people the way they cover politicians. - Matt Drudge

If you think they should be more like Lincoln, you didn't know Abe. Myself, I wish they were. Abe closed newspapers and jailed people who questioned his war, would you want that. Abe sent many critics to live with the enemy. Imagine Bush shipping a few thousand whiney anti-war tards to baghdad and kicking them out the gate to fend for themselves. Do you really think you would like that?
