well, i've been listening to this Regina Spektor song, "Samson". I think i have heard of the story behind the song before. it's a myth involving samson and a girl named Delailah...the song goes:

You are my sweetest downfall
I loved you first, I loved you first
Beneath the sheets of paper lies my truth
I have to go, I have to go
Your hair was long when we first met...

but i dont get why she had cut his hair (knowing it would make him weak)...

Delilah seduced Samson into revealing his strength secret was his long hair. She cut his hair he wasnt as strong and then could be controlled. Like Eve eating the apple in the garden of Eden men always end up in trouble due to the actions of a woman.

Ironically, in order for Delialah to turn Samson into a girly-man she had to cut off his beautiful long hair.

In modern times, there are women that are attracted to men with long hair because it is symbolizes the idea that the man doesn't need to groom himself to an office job so presumably has all this free time and money to screw around... As if independently wealthy men were a dime a dozen and not also useless selfish layabouts.

If You Read The Story In The Bible ( Judges Chapter 13-16 ), The Story Goes Like This:

Here Is About Samsom:

He was dedicated as a Nazirite by his long-childless parents which meant he was pledged not to shave (hair and face), or drink intoxicants (alcohol) he wasnt suppose to marry outside the family traditions and background to a Philistine

About Delilah:

She Was Philistine, She fell in love with Samson as well as he did her which was against custome, and many people were curious about Samsons Strength, it was the favor and power of God on Samson through his hair because he kept the pledge and wishes of his family, and he was blessed mightyly for it, so Delilahs people bought her off to betray her husband, yes they married when not suppose to, and so that they can get the secret reavealed of samsons strength so that the Philistines Could Conquer The Israelys, because the Israelites are God's people and thats their blessing, and whoever went against God's people, died. their like untouchables.

and so anyway the power of God was revealed through samsons hair, Delilah tricked him into telling her, he ended up getting tortured and killed because he gave away that secret that was sacred that helped God's people Conquor Their Enemies.

Go Ahead and read it for yourself.

First,I'd like to make one thing clear,The fact that Samson DID once exist, the Bible is the word of God,and if you think that Samson was a myth, then you must also think that God is a myth?God not only made this world and everything you see in it,and if He didn't,then where do you think it came from? That something appeared out of nowhere,in a vaccuum yet, where nothing possibly could appear, and there was nothing to appear, because there was nothing to appear, catch my drift?
Okay, now to answer your question: She cut off his hair TO make him weak.He loved her,but she loved money more than she loved him,and she also did it for her country, because with Samson's strength,he was killing thousands of Philistines at a time.

Because she was in league with his enemies and had been bribed to rob him of his strength. Personally I think Samson wasn't the brightest bulb in the pack. Before he told her about cutting his hair, he told her three other ways he could lose his strength (all lies) and she tried every one of them. You'd have thought he'd get a clue.

Delilah had been hired by Samson's enemies to seduce him, and then betray him to them. She had tried twice before that to turn him over to them, but each time his strength saved him. So she needed to get rid of his strength.

For her betrayal, she received 1,100 pieces of silver.

Delilah didn't love Samson.

Her people were afraid of Samsom, they couldn't beat him. She found out his secret (and she had tried several times before he finally told her his strength was in his hair) and betrayed him to her people to help them.
