Can dogs see up?

Yeah but as their head is attatched to a different place in the spine they can raise their heads but not look completely up like us.

I was actually asked this question just a few weeks ago so I looked into it. Believe it or not, it depends on the length of the dogs nose (sounds crazy, yes?)

Dogs with long noses tend to have a wider, more horizontal path of vision sort of like (-.-) due to the shape of their rods and cones (the little things in the back of your eye that picks up light and color) Dogs with shorter noses have vision closer to that of humans, as in (o.o).

Now as to whether or not dogs can actually move their eyeballs up far enough to "see up" that I couldn't get a straight answer on.. but what I took away from it is that a dog with a long nose will have to tilt his head farther upwards than a dog with a short nose who has a more vertical plane of vision.

Our last dog (Jack Russel) used to go bananas when birds perched on the edge of the roof, so he could see up ok. Current JR cross ignores them, It may be more a thing about thinking UP

I should hope so , my dogs look up at me all the time. Except when they are puppies then I go down to their level, but to answer your question dogs can see up lol

Yes, have you never seen a dog look up at its owner?
But how far, well that depends when sitting dogs can look up further than if they are standing.

Definately yes! Do some dog watching, you will see them looking at birds flying over, aeroplanes etc.. What about frisbees and balls, they go up in the air don't they?

They do because mine watches the birds in flight & the squirrels in the trees.
